Hello there,

I am seeking unique and creative ideas for filling space on a large (approx. 30ft high x 25ft wide) interior wall.

The wall is within a hospital and the room will be used mostly as a space for informal gathering for various types of healthcare researchers (no actual research or labwork to be done in the room). Most of the space surrounding the room is healthcare eduction and research space, however hospital patients are housed on the floor and surrounding floors.

The initial idea was for a 'living wall' / biowall, however, due to infection control policies within the hospital, this was not possible. I've also been told that an aquarium would be rejected for the same reason.

Can any architects out there provide some unique and creative ideas for this filling this space? Management is especially keen about the 'wow factor' of the wall, as the room will also be used for various high-level meetings/presentations and PR opportunities. Again, please keep in mind the restrictions of the hopsital environment (bacteria, infection control, etc.).

Any help would be appreciated - especially links to pictures/examples of what you're thinking of.

Thanks so much,

JVS

Last December I had the opportunity to visit a Hospital in Tacoma, WA. Each waiting room out of the elevator's lobby was decorated with a very impressive "mosaic mural" with tropical jungle and playfull mtifs, all paid by the Washington State Public Arts Commission (The Washington State Arts Commission (WSAC) is an Arts Council, one of 56 US state or territorial arts councils, commissions, and boards).www.arts.wa.gov/. The artist was Mauricio Robalino (artpeople@q.com)

We just did a cancer center, and we had a long (not as tall) wall in the waiting room we needed to do something with.

We ended up using 3form. it's pretty expensive, but looks interesting. It's hard surface so it's cleanable as well, so it worked well in healthcare environment.

You might consider a Bas Relief sculpture. Talk to the folks at Stromberg.
They have some examples of GFRC and fiberglas bas reliefs on their website. They help develop sculpted mural concepts. I have seen their work at Childrens Hospital and the sculpted animals were quite nice.

Maybe a nice nature scene or something that represents the local areas history, natural features, other.

Talk to some artists, they might be able to suggest something for the space. Personally, given the setting, a mural would seem appropriate, perhaps something illustrating the history of medicine or, if the facility is one with a lengthy or colorful history itself, then a mural depicting that story.

Hello,
Several years ago I created two mosaics for Mary Bridge Children's Health Center in Tacoma, Washington. I have attached pictures. I love creating art that is inspiring, fun and long lasting for public spaces. Please contact me if you want to chat about working together. My name is Mauricio Robalino and my web site is www.artpeople.com. My e-mail address is artpeople@q.com.

Greetings,
Have you considered custom wall panels? We can render 3d panels from .STL files. Or build 3d models from DXF, PDF formats. As well as have patterns on file for customer consideration. Our design or yours, we can make it happen. The only limitation is your imagination.
