hello...
needed help in designing a youth hostel.
the site is facing the beach and the climate is hot and humid we have to concentrate in low cost green building....its in mahabalipuram, india.
i have been thinkin.. i thot of having my structure look like small ghost crabs tht we find the most on beaches so that the hostel would look more inviting its especially for the younger crowd.. i also wanted to make each crab like structure standing above ground like stilt buildings.. depicting crabs ... i wanted to make it interesting rather than a very normal building or resort like structure.
the requirements are :-
8 dorms,4- 20 beded & 4- 10 beded
20 double bedrooms,
10 single bedrooms,
kitchen dining and recreation
i wanted to use the air filled membrane like structure for the roof i was thinking of TiO2 and PTFE...would that work in a curvilinear form and in this hot humid climate?...
would love to hear out ur opninions abt this...
and welcum all suggestions...
help appreciated:) |

You need to know what the budget for this project is before thinking in fancy designs.
You should studie the hostels in the tropical amazonia, Brazil, Peru, Ecuador have them.
The communal and also the single guest rooms are round as the native huts with hatched roofs. The kitchen and dining facilities are also fashioned in the round.
All these facilities are build with local materials and woods, exept for the kitchen, pluming and electric materials that have to be imported.

For the 2005 horror film, see Hostel (film).
Hostel dormitory room in Taiwan.Hostels provide budget-oriented accommodation where guests can rent a bed, sometimes a bunk bed in a dormitory and share a bathroom, lounge and sometimes a kitchen. Rooms can be mixed or single-sex, although private rooms may also be available. Hostels are generally cheaper for both the operator and the occupants; many hostels employ their long-term residents as desk clerks or housekeeping staff in exchange for free accommodation.
An effort could be made to distinguish between establishments providing longer-term accommodation (often to specific classes of clientèle such as nurses, students, drug addicts) where the hostels are sometimes run by Housing Associations and charities) and those offering short-term accommodation to travellers or backpackers.
Within the 'traveller' category, another distinction can be drawn between hostels which are members of Hostelling International (HI), a non-profit organization encouraging outdoor activities and cultural exchange for the young and independently operated hostels. Hostels for travellers are sometimes called backpackers' hostels, particularly in Australia and New Zealand (often abbreviated to just "backpackers"). |
