Nice to see you are thinking about how houses are put together and you are beginning to look at the conventions of how buildings are drawn in 2-dimensions.
I'm interested to know why the kitchen is on the upper floor and, my-oh-my, that's a generous basement, but maybe you are planning to open up a night club |

| Well yeah the basement I just kinda added on because I had forgotten about it earlier. The kitchen, I had an idea to make the bar/ counter on the lower part glass so you could look down into the hallway below next to the stairs and, since i hadn't thought of a basement before hand, i thought of putting it on the second floor. |

Nice drawing of a house and it is very detailed. I am planning to draw an outline of my dream house cuz next year me and my boyfriend will get married (hopefully). But I don't have any educational architecture background. Is it just okay? What are the basics? Thanks. _________________ Modern Design |

| @ rockstar - I'm not sure exactly what you mean you would probably want to find some already made design and edit it, or hire an architect to make one for you. But you could try to make one yourself. |

Wow -- you're 14? It's great that you're thinking about scale at this point...I like that you've designed out the house while thinking about the size of the furniture and how people are likely to circulate through the space. I also like that you are thinking how the plan relates to the elevations of the outside of the house and the roof.
Are you keeping a sketch journal at this point? It would be a great idea, if you are not. If you have this with you wherever you go, you can make sketches of how certain problems you'd like to solve in your own designs have been addressed by built work.
I suspect, because you are working in plan, that you are already able to envision yourself in the spaces that you design. That is a really great step toward becoming a good designer. I would suggest you start looking at doing interior elevation drawings at different scales...by this, I mean, try drawing a picture of the entire house if you cut it down the middle. This way, you'll think more about the relationship of the different floors to each other. At another scale, draw a blow-up of what it would be like to stand in the kitchen, or the bath, and include a scale figure so that you can think about how it relates to the size of a human.
I'm curious for my own sake -- have you tried thinking about designing a building other than a house? Try you hand at a better school cafeteria, or a new library, or a post office.
Whatever you do, let your own interests spur you to ask more questions and follow where they lead.
If you want a real challenge, ask a friend to talk to you about what they would like in a dream house...then try designing it for them. The process of finding a common design language, and learning to explain your ideas in a graphic form (especially when all people don't necessarily have the same ease as you do) might be a really fun thing for you to try.
Keep up the drawing! |

Yeah I am and thanks I really enjoy picturing the rooms and things how they associate with the different activities people would be doing.
I'm not, but that is a great idea and I think I'll start.
I've done a few of those already and I know what you mean about getting a better idea of the space needed to support different types of flooring, walls or furniture, but I think its sometimes harder to manage all of the rooms in on the side. I'll continue doing both though.
I did try designing a new library for my school once accually I think it came out okay but needed some more work. By the way, when I said 3rd one in the post I meant completed one with all the piping and electrical lines too(it's on another page). But I've done a lot of other sketches, and began designs.
I love doing that I think I've done that with almost all my friends and everyone in my house I finished one of them too.
Thanks again for the comment I'll try some of that stuff out! |
