Alfred, I've got an new tool idea if you've got spare time on your hands (ha) Duplicating a tool i recall from a short stint of using the "other" cadd. There was a tool called "layer walk?" where you could cycle through layers one at a time with the arrow keys. Basically as you pressed up or down you would turn off the previous layer on turn on the next in you layer list. It was quite handy for checking correct line placement or finding what layer an object was on. Maybe you've already got something similar already in place and I'm not aware.
Thanks for your help. I agree with others that powercadd is a nice supplement to the wild tools software.

That functionality is already in PowerCADD under "Toggle Layer Up" and "Toggle Layer Down". I use it all the time.
Cheers,
Ralph

| Close, The toggle layer up and down only cycles through layers that are turned on, and it only changes what layer is "current". What I'm looking for fist turns off all the layers then toggles up or down showing only one layer at a time. you can get close in pcadd now by turning on all the layers, selecting all, unchecking the "edit all" box and then cycling up and down (with this all objects on the "current " layer will be highlighted) but I want all the other layers to disappear.

Hmmmm…I'm not sure what my settings are (it's been a while since I changed key commands) but mine is set up to traverse all layers and turns off the previous layer. I couldn't live without this.
BTW, I'm still on PCADD 7. The loss of the functions in the Status Window is unacceptable to me, and PCADD 8s best parts are speed and responsiveness.
Cheers,
ralph

I make the top layer (in the Layer Window list) active and turn off the others. Then using the blue up/down arrows that Matt pointed out, can scroll down through the layers one by one -- I do this all the time (in PC8, and have been doing so in previous versions, too).
regards,
patrick

Learn something new every day!! Yup, the blue arrows do exactly what I was looking for! I have had the "<" ">" set to change the current layer and I'd never played with the arrows on screen
Thanks Much!!

Patrick,
Why do you do this all the time?

For what it's worth, we used to get a request for this all the time, but I could never figure out a good way to do it. Plus, it seemed like something that belonged in the program, and not in an external.
Back when we were working on PC6 and WT7, I noticed the black arrows at the bottom of the drawing window. Of course, I had known about these forever, but I never used them so I had effectively forgotten them. So I thought this would be an ideal way to accomplish this.
My first thought was that we could option-click the black arrow for this functionality, but Todd Stanley wanted it to be simpler than that, so he put in two additional arrows. But the new arrows looked too similar to the existing ones, so I lifted the blue arrows from Entourage and he put them in the program.
It's just one of those many things that when you see it, it seems obvious that it always should have been done that way. But that's the way it always is with good features.
Alfred

Patrick,
Why do you do this all the time? |
While I typed "all the time", I guess I should have typed "frequently".
I guess I am - forum abuse - about having items on the right layers. Usually, near the end of a project, I do this just to clean up my drawings, allowing me to cut and paste various miss-layered items to the correct layer.
