| I think the poll needs and "all of the above" option! (... or maybe a "most of the above" option -- I don't remember a few items lower on the list, and I've only been using PC8 for a 2 or 3 weeks.) |

I have it open in PC7 standard. why? to count selected objects and also for the nudge.
I guess it's gone in PC8 eh? poop. |

| The count of selected objects has been moved to the toolbar/dashboard, as has the nudge... although the nudge no longer displays dimensional units. zoom in and zoom out are also in the toolbar, but there's no Go To, no scale display, and no way to stipulate zoom percentage. |

Not having all of the functions of the PC7 status window easily available - and not in the ToolBar which to me is a waste of space - means I'm going back to PC7/WT8.

I find with computer programs there is a tendency to like what you are familiar with, and the first reaction when something changes in a new version is to not like it because it is unfamiliar. I try my best to be objective about changes, try them for a while, and then judge whether I think they are an improvement or not. The demise of the Status Window is a good example.
My assessment after about a month using PC8 is that the loss of the Status Window as such does not bother me, as long as all its items are relocated elsewhere to logical places. Let's look at where things have things gone:
1) The scale display (with its drop down menu) has totally disappeared and requires you to open up the Drawing Setup to see the scale or change it. For me this is a real loss and needs to be brought back into a visible spot. I find myself opening up the Drawing Setup way more than I used to.
2) The zoom display, although I used it much less than the scale, was handy and I would vote for it also to be brought back.
3) The nudge has moved to the Drawing Toolbar which I find OK, though the units don't seem to always be displayed consistently.
4) The Edit All button is (and always has been) on the Layers Window which I always keep open anyway. My preference is not to have duplicate buttons that do the same thing.
5) The number of objects selected has moved to the Drawing Toolbar which I am OK with.
6) The display of the layer on which a selected object is located has now moved to the Edit Window, which I find logical as it is a property of the object.
7) The Go To button is no longer really necessary, since a right (Control) click on an object allows you to "activate" the layer on which the object is located (same as Go To). It also enables you to move the object to another layer. These actions take a bit of getting used to, but I believe they make sense once you use them for a while.
My 2 cents worth. I'd like to hear others opinions... |

All good points Greg, thanks for the perspective.
I don't understand deleting interface elements. I can deal with changes, such as using the contextual menu rather than a Go To layer button.
Control of the zoom percentage has always been important to me, I used it all the time.
Displaying the scale of a drawing in an application that uses the Paradigm of Scale seems to be a reasonable expectation, not requiring the user to excavate through menus and dialogue boxes for the information.
Nudge sets PowerCADD apart, the downgrading of the performance of the interface of this significant feature can't be explained, it should just be reversed. |

Whoa! Very telling statement. I wonder why ES employees post occassional questions to the users if this is not about two way communication, learning, and info gathering. ES software asks about feature requests and beta testers and other items, but don't be posting any "important issues" here (like software that we pay for to support a livelihood?)!

Oh, I don't think Bill said don't post it here. Sounds like he is saying "Hey Matt, give me a call, don't just post here."
On the subject, Why not also display the longhand version 1 1/2"=1'-0" which is what is displayed in the pull-down? For input you also want the factor but this is the way we tend to refer to the scale.

I miss the scale factor.
I strongly recommend to ES that this feature find its way into the toolbar.
Best if you can do direct entries into the scale factor window.
