is global architecture even desireable?
Many practices function globally as we speak (not even large ones), and there's a fair bit of knowledge sharing etc, but the fact remains that some practices are more able and suited to designing to certain contexts (social/aesthetic/climatic) than others.
Design journals have long had a global attention.
The other issue is that a global architecture runs the risk of stagnation and a fair amount of inbreeding. Where are new ideas supposed to come from if we all draw from the same cultural context? _________________ http://mladen.deviantart.com - my art site

Mladen, thank you for your response.
Precisly my point. Practicing archtecture globally, doesn't mean promoting a sterio type architecture ( i.e the glass towers that was installed all over the world in mid 20th century).
Infact my topic of argument is that the identity, cultural and environmental adaptability must take the principal role.
However, I think global practice may innspire the local context and it's inhabitants including the local architectural firms. Because, the overseas firm may have new ideas which are out of the box.( compared to the style, trends training of local architects and inspirations of local firms).
Any thoughts? |

Why does regionalism exist? I thought architecture was a customized solution to it's context (ecosystem, climate, location), user etc...
Coming back to the original topic, any thoughts on global architecture and practice vs international? |
