Thinking about changing job, so working on my portfolio.
I've worked almost 2 yrs. but in this two years, what I did is just tiny part of projects such as bathroom design, or some details, or simply redlines. which I feel hard to include in portfolios. As to design, the only one who've a say on design in our office is principals. and those projects are all colaberative effort.
any experience of putting together a good portfolio? I know it should contain part of school works- cool graphics, but for the work projects, what my portfolio should focus?

It really depends on the position that you are applying for. Since you have only two years of experience, it will most likely be for a job captain position. I would concentrate on having sheets of drawings of projects that you worked on. Don't compile sheets and sheets of the same material. Set up your sequence of drawings so you can easily explain to the interviewer your contributions and responsibilities for each sheet. School work is always helpful, especially to show case your model building and sketching experience. Be honest with yourself, if you don't have a good hand, don't bother bringing samples of bad work.
Something to also consider is to join the AIA and make sure you attend all the functions that you have time. Be sure to volunteer at these functions as well. I hope you made an ernest effort to network, I can't emphasize how important these contacts will work for you and your career. |

If you have been a drafter or a cad operator for the past two years, you should put in your portfolio samples of drawing that you have completed under some ones direction.
Do not apply for a job as deliniator or designer if you have no experiece in doing that.
If you have good ideas and free hand have sketch sketch ability with ink or pencil, make prints in photo paper, to show your talents.
If you are not geting a promotion were you are, ask why, if you are confident of your skills ask to be given more resposibility, is better to grow in a company than make sideway changes. GOOD LUCK |
