When we talk about a particular building being environmentally friendly, what aspects are there apart from the building having use solar panels or having a roof top garden?

If we used large amounts of glass in a building, we would be able to cut down on the electricity used for lighting up to interior during the day, are there any other building materials that would benefit?

dude... green architecture is all about achieving the union of your building to its surrounding nature... yes, materials plays a important role in making a GREEN architecture, but then, your architectural solution will play the most important role in achieving it... in which i mean with the architectural solution is your plans, your elevations, and like what you said the materials... these solutions should always produce 1st a functional bldg, then 2nd a ecofriendly structure...

example... if your given a project of a mental rehabilitation center/institute.. and since you wanted greenarchitecture... you actually used glasses, which of course save you artificial lighting but then expose the patients... that would be problem, right... then you should consider architectural solutions with your plan, and elevs not just with your materials... instead of glasses, why not use skylighting... same effect, you save the same electricity but not exposing your patients... get the idea?

I just wanted to throw in the fact that modular buildings are very environmentally friendly. Our factory is able to minimize material waste, which is great for the environment. We are also big on recycling.

On top of that, we are entering the Green building market with our Green classroom called The Iguana. It qualifies for 28 USGBC LEED credits without any site considerations. 26 is the minimum for LEED certification. The USGBC would be a great place to look for Green ideas as well.

Hope this is helpful!
