hi guys,
I'm planning to study architecture and be a very good architect. I haven't started yet and right now I'm taking math courses in order to be excellent in that area. I'm good at sketching and I really enjoy drawing cars and buildings. What are the most important courses in architecture, what's the average salary of an architect per year in USA?
Thanks

That's probably questions I'd like to ask, too. I'm good at Math and Physics, and sketching as well. Hey Insa, where are you from?

This is some pretty crappy advice for high school students.

First of all, the best way to get into a good school of architecture, actually, the only way to get into any accredited school of architecture in the US is to have the best high school resume you possibly can.

At a minimum, take all the college prep courses. AP courses are better.

Keep your GPA as high as possible.

Be involved in sports, clubs, drama, etc. Extra-curricular activity like volunteer work.

Don't be a resume builder, show stamina and perserverance. 3 years growing in two activities is better than a semester each in 10.

Nail that SAT or ACT.

If drafting is available, take it. Other art classes are good too.

If you can, make that summer or after school job be one in an architectural firm.

BTW, in college, you can count on:

calculus - 1 yr
physics - 1 yr
history of architecture - 1 yr
structural engineering - 1 yr
mechanical & electrical systems - 1 semester
sleep - very little.

Oh, and average salary? Hard to say. But if you have a license and only make $50K, you're either lousy at what you do, working part time, or should be looking for a new job.

Go to salary.com for info.

math is very much a part of getting through your architectural studies. to get to your architecture classes you must first have your core classes out of the way, which consist of physics and calculus. after those classes you must then take your structures courses, where both of these come into play.

one peice of advice i would give, is get to know your software (drafting/modelling/rendering). keep sketching and learn software which will help you articulate your designs in class.

hi
i am a student from Palestine (middle east). i really love architecture and want to be the greatest architect i can be. i want to study in USA ( I'm in 12th grade taking the international baccalaureate diploma program)

my percentage is 89-90 %
i have really good extracurriculars
i had 1750 in SAT 1
i really like arts and think that true architecture is an art not science.
any ways, i want to go to a good architecture school (not necessarily TOP) and one that gives good aid and scholarships for international students.
can anyone help me please!!

as you might know, or im guessing do not know, to become a licensed architect in most states in the United States you must have a masters at an accredited university.

experience is all i needed in my state.

experience is 200% more valuable than education in the field of architecture.

I am 100% supporting the Palestinian struggle for self determination against the oppressive human rights violators of Isreal, in fact i don't know a single person who supports Zionism.

Best of luck whatever path you choose to take Faiq. just remember schooling is overrated and unnecessary especially with the poor for profit education system of the USA. And pass on my words of support to your brothers engaged in the struggle.

thank you very much,
it really makes me (and I'm sure all my people too) strong when we hear supporting comments from people like you.
(its also good to know that there are actually people who aren't so deceived by the media like the rest!)

Very Happy
