Just trying to figure out which roofing material would be the best choice is difficult.
metal is often presented as a sound choice and it is the preferred finish of the client's (except for the cost)
I don't see it lasting that much longer than a good quality composite shingle in our area. Standing seam is better than exposed fastener I guess. It is recyclable but it takes a lot of energy to re-manufacture it as well as produce it. Galvalum and white finish are probable more reflective than this ELK cool shingle.
Along time ago they used to do tar and gravel on low slope roofs around here. There are also several membrane systems around and some rubber and cement composite shingles and tiles and slates.
Just trying to get a cost comparison is a major job. _________________ Chris Stewart
