You say you want to start a global community but then you say we can't have a thousand people talking about their own work?
That doesn't make since. What do you think a global community is? A thousand people paying you US$990 to work for you?
This forum is plenty big enough for everyone to have room to do their own thing. Kevin has the ability to reorganize the content as he sees fit. _________________ Chris Stewart

You contradict yourself as well.
You claim to be a member of a participative community, to make the world a better place to design, to have an open, cooperative attitude, but then in turn rip apart other people's projects and ideas.
If I were to quote you on every criticism you have made, this discussion forum and the people here would truly understand what I am referring to.
At what point did I criticize your work or person in any way ?
When you requested to place your site on our servers, I readily agreed. I even offered you various options that would save you money. It is obvious your request was never serious and you were only using the request as a test, with no intention to actually participate with us on our project. So, even after you made many serious accusations against the project, I willingly agreed to your request, with a free open spirit. But you continue your criticism, even to this very moment, and even on things you do not understand, but take out of context, just as others in this forum are doing. My god, is everyone here so skewed ?
To assume I am asking people to pay me US$990 is ludicrous. You obviously read some posting, but did not understand the content of the same.
Your objective has not been to participate in any way, but obviously to criticize other people's projects in favor of some alternate vision you are promoting. This has been obvious from the start. Your comments did more harm then good.
To have a thousand people talking about their own work and cooperating together is one thing. We do not ask for people to try to undermine the work of other scientists, inventors, designers or architects, in the same way you should respect the ideas, thoughts and opinions of fellow architects, and not be calling their vision "wacky".
Everyone has the right to their own opinion but not to rip apart the work of other professionals.
If there are elements in a project like the one we are promoting that seem obscure, not clear and not obvious to the naked eye, it is for this exact reason that there are and always will be curious people with an alternate vision who seek to undermine the efforts of other scientists, visionaries and architects in favor of a "better" way, an "alternate means" to achieve the same end or similar result.
You keep referring to the developers of Second Life and allude to their ability to truly understand the economic viability of such alternate worlds. Curious, since the agenda of communities like these is vary apparent. Without a new global community worlds as these will continue to propagate indecent behavior to the young, as there is no control of who is participating and such communities freely admit people into rooms that are sexually explicit. Not to mention many advanced technologies we are developing are certainly being contemplated by groups such as these. This is another topic and to much to expound upon here. Certainly the world is in dire need of an alternate or these big players will dominate the virtual world. Those who do not see this must wake up.
We simply cannot release all the details of our project to people who are not truly interested in participating.
For those who are sincere, and express this sincerity by being participative, cooperative, helpful, kind, and respectful, we have much to share.
But communities or discussions that favor particular individuals certainly have much to learn in terms of group participative behavior.
No further comment. In my opinion this discussion should not continue.
If you wish to pursue the matter this is your choice.
If you chose to do so, you might want to look at this link first --->>

This should serve as a warning to all who are slandering other ideas, projects, books and the like.

OK
I've been playing around with my Softplan Program trying to get better interior renderings. The default settings are poor so it takes some time to get anything descent. At the moment I have a line appearing in the ceiling that I should not have and I can't get rid of it.

Good job Chris...lots of hours put into that I can see but I have one criticism: I bet you didn;t add any roof overhags and therfore the upper windows give an impression that's quite different from reality. It look so nice to see so much green and blue, but you also raised the eye level (level of perspective) so that what one would really see out of the upper windows may mostly be the underside of the roof soffits....hence, my previous comments about creating a tension ring and providing a true clerestory instead. My two cents, as usual...otherwise, it's great to see the spatial aspects of a project rather than just more floor plans, like what many of us only work with...

The overhangs are in place and the views are simulated correctly. There would be no view from within the office through the clerestory (other than the soffit) or for that matter from any where close to underneath the clerestory.
But that's ok. I like the space underneath them.
Still don't know if I fully understand the tension ring idea.
I choose an unusual viewpoint for the office to get a better view of the total space. I had read a trick about temporarily hiding walls to get a better view so I might try that also. _________________ Chris Stewart

I stand corrected...if the overhangs are in place at the correct angle and length of o/h. then I really like the upper windows. I wqould even suggest you take it further and add a clear transom above the door but I would like to see a soffit of some sort to define the entrance vestibule more...
Tension ring...sort of like this:
http://www.shelterpub.com/_blog/IMG_0189-lo-res.jpg
Technically it's not exactly a "tension ring", but in structural design, it's not unusual to refer to such a structure as such. It can be square or rectangular and in wood construction you bear your "ring" on girders that distribute the load to the columns, etc...it acts as one system.

yes, I know what a tension ring is I just am not sure how you where suggesting I used it.
All I could think is like a more typical clerestory which would only serve to move them up and into the main area or directly over the outer wall.
here is a view to the back:

Added kitchen cabinets. I'm starting to get the bugs worked out on these interior renderings:)

Ironically, I immediately think of the 5 principles of LeCorbusier and only the ramp and roof garden is missing...or perhaps it is Raumplan without the split levels. In other words, it's extremely modern design. It looks good but I'm just not crazy (personally) about the one large open space. It's something that I subjectively don;t like but it's irrelevant because you must please and delight your clients. And it's coming together nicely in that fact. I would only make on more suggestion about your rendering: remove the office chairs from the kitchen...it distracts from the quality of the space and "cheapens" the decor, if you know what I mean. Or if you have some residential wooden chairs of some sort...

those chairs are pretty cheezy.
Although I have tried to strike some balance between traditional and modern in the design, as a whole I think most of the modern feel is coming from lack of detail and the lack of personal things in my rendering. Once people are living in it, it will soften up I think. _________________ Chris Stewart

I think this may help also, although I may have to rethink the little wall beside the refrigerator.

One of the energy efficiency measures I am considering is to move the ceiling insulation up to the roof. I kept the roof pitch pretty low (4/12) with this in mind. This will provide an area to run HVAC ducting in semi-conditioned space.
