I am hoping someone can help me with this. I am currently using auto cade lt 2000. My company recently purchased a ricoh alicio 240w plotter for my use. It also has the capablity to scan. The scanned documents are saved as tif files. Is there anyway to convert them to dwg files, so that the plans can be manipulated in my auto cad program. I have searched online for an add on to do this, but have been unsuccessful. If this is not possible, are the newer versions of AutoCad compatible with tif documents.

LT 2000 is so old its time for an upgrade.

intellicad LT it's free i don't know y anybody would use autocad anymore

Got a link to the free intellicad LT? The ProgeCAD LT is no longer free. But back to the original poster's question, does intellicad LT handle raster files well?
Full versions of AutoCAD can insert tiff and other raster file formats. It won't convert them to vector files but you can use them as reference to either trace over or as background images.
Go to ... http://www.wintopo.com/
and download the freeware version. It can open raster images (tiff included) and convert to vector (dxf) files. Worth a shot and costs nothing.

this link lets you download ProgeCAD 2006 LT the last free version
full versions of Intellicad will too (the image thing)
i prefer the PictureFrame Command in Rhinoceros myself, plus the curve commands are way more and way power fuller. i would pull my hair out to trace in autocad or a clone a background bitmap. 
i don't like what most raster vector converters do of course they have their place, streamline being one of the first i used.

Sorry, your link doesn't seem to work. I think ProgeCAD pulled their free LT offer.
Bad thing about "PictureFrame" is that it seems to only appear in the rendered viewport or image. |

Thank you all for your input .. I downloaded the programs and am now able to use the scanner along with a cad program .. one more quick question .. i am trying to overlay a drawing onto another drawing, but the sizes are different .. is there a trick to make the drawings equal in scale?

You'll just have to scale the inserted CAD file to match your existing CAD file. If you need any more ACAD help just jump over to the forums at CADTutor.net

use the command setobjectdisplaymode to make it a rendered object in any viewport you want to see it. ob.com has a great tutorial in using these commands to make reference image setups

I guess you're missing my point, I don't want to have to render it to see the raster image. My not simply set it to the background of the viewport (in Rhino)?
That link seems to work but I don't think that they have permission to distribute that application anymore. |
