well here she is... just closed on it on thursday.
when we started our search we were really interesting in getting a big old victorian- which there is no lack of in this area- but in the end most of them were either way too big, way too expensive, or way too much neeeded to be done to them to make them functional again- well too much for the wife- i gladly would have done the work.
anywho we found this one which i referred to as the 'batcave' initially b/c you can enter the house through the garage underground... we went and saw it and fell in love with its character and neighborhood
it was built sometime in the 20s or early 30s but a yet unknown architect- but i intend to figure that out shortly. i've come to find that the style of the home is something sort of unique to that period of time and is far more common on the west coast around hollywood. turns out the big screen inspired many on the left coast to build what are now known as 'storybook style' homes during the 20s and 30s.
although the house is in great shape there is still enough to do to keep my busy- which is really what i was hoping for in a home purchase in the first place

| I like all those big chunks of stone, Are they all over the house or just the front ? If the roof is copper. standing seam it might look even better. |

That chimney is like a sports coupe with its oversize bonnet (engine compartment: whatever you call 'em over there) 
I think I'd have gone for it just because you can reach the inside via the garage below... very Bruce Wayne indeed.
Having a place of one's own is great... people talk about mortgages, settling down, getting middle class and boring. That's crap. Enjoy! |

yes all of my college buddies are telling me i just aged 10 years in the past 6 months by getting married and buying a home...
i'm sick of throwing away money renting- might as well invest it with the promise of some kind of return. also i think its going to be alot of fun having a space that actually BELONGS to me instead of just being inhabited by me.
early projects include-
fencing in the yard- probably something nice and wooden- i'm thinking arts and crafts style-like wood thing. need to make a home for the dog so he doesn't have to rampage around the inside all day.
finish the basement- its nice and dry for the most part just needs some furring out for walls and flooring and ceilings. and would basically double the livable space in the house.
landscaping- once the snow has melted and the ground has thawed there is going to be some earth moving out back to level the yard a bit before the fence gets in and some new plantings around the house and out front. of course do to topography its all going to be done the old fashioned way with a shovel, wheel barrow, and a case of beer.
so it should be a fun 6 or 8 months- i'll keep the projects posted. |

I'm always shocked at how the architecture of different regions can vary so much...you couldn't find such a gem in south florida...first there are no hills or basements or underground garages (it's flat, really, really flat)!!
Congratulations! I true HOME with lotsa character...one word of advice, unless you're a millionaire, don;t give yourself to short of a schedule or too much of a list of thigns to improve around the house because the honest truth is that it ALWAYS takes twice as long to do, cost three times as much and never ends. But it is all worth it...your buddies are jealous! trust me...hahaha
