Looks nice with critique to 3 things

Roof
Grass
Sky

I would find replacement materials for these 3 items and then I think it will look sharp

Is that a waterfall?! The design looks interesting from your second image (the rear?), sort of creates a courtyard, like an ad-hoc farmstead.

Hi Lekizz,
Yes that's a waterfall and the rear of the house. My idea was to incorporate a way to move water out of that corner, rainwater storage and a water feature that the owners wanted. The overflow would go to an underground tank.

I was thinking it would be cool if I could find a miniature working windmill to circulate the water. I am trying to make this a more energy efficient house but the owners are not big on the idea.

The border around the house is supposed to be a gravel path with an underground water collection system.

Looks Great Chris. I don't know that I would incorporate the windmill as it might distract from the design.

If you are thinking energy efficiency, look into ICF design. ICF = Insulated Concrete Forms. They are not that expensive and they allow so much for a home.

i have used Polysteel in the past and found it very easy to do and not that much more expensive than a stick frame build.

Does this design take into account any environmental issues?

The windmill was just a fun idea.

We may look into ICF's they have some good advantages. From what you are saying elsewhere the cost differential is pretty small.

The daylighting should be very good because of the clear story windows.

Yes the home is designed for passive efficiency as much as the client will allow. We are also looking at all building components that will reduce energy usage within the budget.

Have you ever thought of adding a secondary door off the front to provide an "air trap"? These types of entrances give an area so that you don't loose conditioned air each time the door is opened.

Otherwise, it looks good. I especially like the large open public area of the home, with the private areas grouped together off to the side.

That's a good idea although the door out to the carport would actually be the one used most by far.

Chris,

Is this a spec house, or for a specific client, or just a design you are playing with?
