it begins to look as if the rumours talked about privately or at least quietly by the currency traders in the last couple of weeks were for real.

the Dollar is diving.

it lacks credibility. Even the British CBI has spoken out loudly against American trade practices - and Blair ignores the main British trade organisation at his peril.

rumour had it that the dollar was being "dumped - at any price".

it is now at its lowest ever against the euro. However, like Chairman Arafat, it is in what could be called a reversible coma.

its chances of survival are about the same as Arafat's - and if it dies, its death will be about as accidental as Arafat's.

"The price action today is nothing short of stunning," said Richard Franulovich of Westpac Banking. "This is a pretty good guide at just how entrenched negative sentiment is toward the dollar."

"What this shows is that the structural problems in the US economy are completely dominating the positive cyclical news that we had today from payrolls [unemployment figures]," said Aziz McMahon, a strategist at ABN Amro in London. "It seems now that the longer-term investors like pension funds and perhaps monetary authorities are either hedging their dollar risk or moving assets out of the United States."

maybe you are right - just a bit of trading jitters.

there again, having heard what was happening a couple of weeks ago, I was curious to see if it would go as predicted.

if you are right, then all will be well.

i thought there was also some interest in maintain the low value of the dollar to compete against the euro...

in the dollar based economy of the world it is easier to limit the influence of the euro if the euro is very expensive...that way those using the euro standard cannot compete with prices from areas using the dollar standard, thus maintaining the surpremecy of the dollar on the world market...

maybe not everybody sees the supremacy of the dollar as being a good thing.

as a trading tool certainly a slightly lower dollar may not be so bad. However rumour is that its credibility is damaged (back to the 'American brand').

a currency which lacks credibility may simply continue to slide. Blaming the euro for having credibility is like blaming the French for not believing american lies at the UN.

why should nations want to trade with you - you are a thoroughly abusive and deceitful nation with Bush in charge.

If america wants to be trusted ............ try being honest.

i didn't blame the euro for anything?

i simply said that there is a looming battle b/w the euro and the dollar on a world wide scale...

people are throwing their lot in with the dollar in order to maintain its world wide appeal.... the euro is attempting to take the dollars place in the world...but is being made far to expensive by the cheap dollar, making it much less interesting to economies around the world...

a cheap dollar makes it far more marketable against a seemingly very expensive euro...

i know you like to associate foreign policy and values and such with the behavior of money trading... but i think something that most people see as far more important to the credibility of a currency is whether or not all those in the group supporting it, actually use it...

not all european union members use the euro standard...i would think the world economies might wonder "why not?" what is wrong with this standard that members of the organization that created it, don't even use it for themselves..... i think that is a far more important issue to world economies than whether or not george bush is a dumbass...

imagine if the united states supported the dollar but texas decided to use its own currency b/c it felt it would be better off? that would foster much credibility in the dollar now would it?

and now for the bad news - it isn't Europe that has been attacking the dollar.

that others want to take advantage of the vacuum that his illness and likely death causes is no surprise.

after all, what can the Palestinian people do. They are viewed as Untermenschen by the Israelis and their American backers - as people with no legal rights.

You are muddling your threads, but no matter.

Yes, the DOW jumped, and with a lower dollar that could be really good news for you.

America could sell more products overseas and you would do ever so well, provided:

1) people want to buy American products

and

2) the dollar does not keep falling
