Joe Edgell has very kindly made Tips & Techniques available at his own website for download for the time being. It is the popular Illustrated 514 kb version. This is the address; you may need to copy and paste it into your browser, or right click and select "Save as":

(now available at http://geocities.com/solvolition/)

Many thanks, Edgell!

I can see that it needs some minor tweaking so, if Edgell is willing, I can have a new version available from his website within a few days. It will include many minor grammar corrections and a new entry on how to use the File/Export 3D/DXF Model command to good use making hollow shell-like models.

There is one correction in the "How to snap two objects together, handle to handle" entry: you need to left click, NOT right click.

As a long time user, i have appreciated your tips. I love DW but as of late I am being forced to use it less and less due to printing problems, file exchange and frankly lack of updates.
we run OSx on a NT network and as I use DW I am being left on "an Island", ACAD does not read 3DXF files exported from DW, Sketch-up only gets some of the information and formZ is hit and miss. A few years ago I was able to move files back and forth, not anymore...

So I am abandoning DW and gravitating more and more to Sketch-up...

I don't blame you at all, Roberto.

But I believe DesignWorkshop at it's present state is an excellent introduction to the world of 3D modeling. Last summer I even guided 6 junior high and high school students on a VERY brief project (12 hours) to each design his own house, including floor, walls, openings, roofs and furniture (thanks to the Object Library). They came out of it very impressed.

So I am very pleased to announce that Tips & Techniques is back on the Web! I have finally gotten around to reformatting it for it's own website:

http://www.geocities.com/solvolition

Enjoy!

I agree, the more I work wih Sketch-up the more I gravitate back to DW. I get irritated by edges and surfaces instead of solids; the editing capabilities over "solids, forms, volumes" are primitive at best.
I wish Kevin would look at "some" of the interface features Sketch-up has though...If I could only take the DW guts and combine them with some of the tools (construction tools) and interface of Sketch-up (context dialog windows, more display modes, user options for drawing, better control over groups, introducing symbols, better control for printing output, total control over arbitrary orientations, better control over export format and units) it would be paradise...

I'm very pleased to announce that TTDW is now available as a series of hyperlinked web pages hosted by Geocities at http://geocities.com/solvolition/ ! TTDW's capabilities as a learning tool are now better than ever. Please let me know what you think and help add to this resource of collective DW knowledge.

I have just completed a major overhaul of TTDW. It is much more user friendly now I think. The How-to page has been split into two pages, one for beginners and one for more advanced users, all entries having ratings. Also the Basics page has been reorganized under the headings "Just Starting Out", "Best Practice", and "Having Problems?"

Check it out and let me know what you think.

One caveat: Geocities has a farily severe hourly data transfer limit which means you might see an error page instead. Just try back again a little bit later. I am considering migrating to googlepages to overcome this problem.
