Hi, i'm new here. I have completed a ba in fine arts from indiana university with minors in business, entrepreneurship, and art history (spread thin, in know). I've always had an interest in architecture and would love to pursue a masters. My research tells me that some people have come from a non bArch background but that they are in the majority. Really, any information on the subject would be welcome, but i would love to hear from someone who has followed a path similar to mine. Is it difficult to get into schools without a bArch? Do i need internships/experience in the field? If my portfolio is lacking in architectural work, should i go back to the drawing board? Also, are there any schools out there that cater to students like me, say with a more design oriented mentality? Any info would be great, hope to hear from someone. Oh yeah, i'm in the indianapolis area and if there is anyone in this forum that works or live nearby, i would love to arrange a meeting or even a phone call. THANKS.

You're situation is not uncommon. You will be in school at least three years in order to get your MArch. You're portfolio is probably better than most given your BFA. You will be judged against your peers, not people who already have an Arch degree. There are many schools that are "more design oriented." I don't know what you're grades or portfolio is like but some good ones are: Princeton, Harvard, Yale, MIT, Berkeley, UCLA, U of Virginia, UPenn...the list goes on and on. The are some decent mid-west schools including Michigan, U of Cinc, Wash U. Good Art/Architecture schools include RISD, Pratt and Parsons. This is by no means an all inclusive list, just something to get you started. Cranbrook is an amazing Art/Architecture school but isn't accredited so there really is no point in going there unless you already have a BArch. Hope this is enough to get you started. Good Luck.
