Hey all,
I'm a new DWLite user.
I've had some success designing a basic building, but I've got a problem with labelling objects.
1. When I add text via the 'text tool' and save/close the file, then when I re-open the file the text is gone.
2. When I select an object (like a door or a window) and assign that object a name in the 'object info' window and save/close the file, again when I re-open the file the object name is gone.

my goal is to record a manufacturer's part number for each window and door, so I know what to buy when i start to build...

What am I doing wrong? All advice much appreciated!

Thanks
T

Hi crocus...

1) The text tool is basically worthless. There is no way I know of in my "considerable" experience with DW to keep it around.

2) I have found that for an object name to be saved you must hit the enter key after typing it in. only typing it in and then saving the file without hitting enter will not keep the object name.

Hope that helps.

The Text tool in DesignWorkshop - along with the Pencil and Eraser tools - works in a 2D mark-up overlay whose contents are temporary and separate from the 3D model. These tools are quite useful for fast onscreen mark-up and annotation, such as for design critiques or presentations. And any visible contents of the 2D overlay are included when printing a view from DesignWorkshop.

However, the contents of the mark-up overlay are not saved with the DW model.

To apply any change made in the Object Info windoid, you must press the Return or Enter key when you're done changing any field. Pressing the Tab key to move between fields in the Object Info windoid will also apply the change.

Also, DesignWorkshop currently does not recognize changes in the Object Info windoid for the purposes of using the Undo and Save commands.

So, to save any change made with Object Info (including Object Name), you may need to either use the Save As... command, or make a change directly to the model (ie, any method except the Object Info windoid), that will then cause the Save command to become active.

Thank you for the clarification, David. I do agree with you that these tools are useful for desk crits and stuff. I have used them myself in some illustrations for Tips & Techniques. I was really commenting on long term presentation usefulness of the markup tools and should have clarified that in my post. I could have used more positive language too.

And this info about the Object Info Winodoid is good to know.

Say, David: is there an existing all-in-one resource, or could one be made, to illuminate little inside details like this? I volunteer to put one together, if needed.
