who is this? yes, the house you're talking about, Il Muro is mine.
To answer some of your questions: the lot in wine country was 5 acres,
all cliff, but for a building parcel 25'X130'. Noone wanted it. Neighborhood
brought millions for lots. This was offered at $50K and I took it. As new owner, I sat on lot looking and it was sunset. That sunset faced the lot.
Idea! Went to KMart and bought a lot of cheap queen sized sheets, took them to site, hung them (saggingly) and the next day sat is same spot to see
sunset cast shadows of century old oaks on sheets.
House was designed: 22'X125', long gallery, 3 br, 2 ba, office, laundry/panty
and great room, all with 14' ceilings.
West wall became "living mural" and just before til just after sunset, the wall
became a living mural of shadows, cast in colorations from gold to violet.
All locals said I was not only stupid but an idiot a mindless moron who could never be a REAL architect. Weekends saw traffic stopped for pic takers.
Property was sold to a typically mindless Californian who promptly tore down
all the oaks, obviating the wall's purpose, sole purpose.
and then painted it pink.
Oh California. _________________ peterbice@peterbice.com |
