On 'This American Life' today, Ira Glass had some very good points to open the show. They decided to investigate the laws associated with Federal Emergency action.

They spoke with a half dozen experts including one who had written four books on the subject. One of the books was entitled 'Federal Emergency laws and Regulations in Disaster related Evacuations' or something of the like.

He stated that because the Governer had declared a state of emergency the FRIDAY BEFORE the storm, the federal gov't was free at that time to begin moving supplies and military personnel into the state. They did not need the president's decleration of a state of emergency at all, which incidently came the next day (Saterday before the storm). At anytime after Friday the gov't was legally responsible for implementing support for the state.

In fact, the mobilization of units and supplies were already taking place militarily. But the FEMA guys were either too dim to realize their cue to act or too inexperienced to know what was expected of them. Either way the Bush Administration is ultimately responsible for putting these mandates into action especially after the president's statement on Sat.

To make it all worse, there is a law that makes it very clear that the Dept. of Homeland Security or the FEMA director has the power to send support and mobilize the National Guard if a clear and imediate danger to the wellfare of citizens WITHOUT a particular state's local gov't saying a word. It even does not require the president's decleration.

Yet, Chertoff goes on national television and states that evacuation and support ultimately lies 'with state and local officials'. Brownie goes on national television and states that the gov't had no idea that for three days 25,000 people were starving and thristy at the Convention Center. Both will probably get a medal.

Is it not the time to call for hearings into impeachment on gross negligence resulting in American Civilians dying needlessly. Even Republican Senators and Congressman are calling for the dismissal of Brownie. He was fired as a commissioner for the Arabic Horse Association for God's sake.

Regards,

Of course he has been removed from his duties in the Gulf Coast. But the reasons given were that he needs to deal with other disasters...God Bless us all.

The truth about these knuckleheads is staring America (and the world) in the face -- yet it isn't recognized (it seems) by a majority, yet. What will it take. . .?

Geez, I misspelled doctoring in the headline and knuckleheads. I must have been very angry at the time:) I am much better now though.

Brownie has been fired and GW has assured us that he will 'study the relationship between the Federal and local governments'. He said it is something he 'wants to know more about'. I am relieved.

He is going to study this relationship in Texas where he was governer for God's sake! Now hes the POTUS and he is not familiar enough with that relationship? My God I am truly and utterly disgusted by this man's stupidity. It knows no bounds.

Sorry I had to drag God into this ugly mess, but at this point the only thing I seem to be doing lately is praying to him for patience and calm everytime I pick up a newspaper, see the news or go on the internet!

Sorry for all the mistakes,
dgt

P.S. I truly am an awful typist when I am thinking too fast.

That's OK -- your heart is in the right place, which is the important thing.

Grover Norquist has said that he'd like to shrink government down until it's small enough "to drown in the bathtub." I can think of some government types I'D like to drown in a bathtub. . .

"What will it take ?"

indeed - where is the outrage, the reaction ?

in Britain at the annual Labour Party Conference, Jack Straw was giving a speech congratulating himself on how well the democratic process in Iraq is going. A member of the conference audience shouted "nonsense !". He was immediately set upon by heavies and forcibly removed from the conference hall, with the heavies quoting "anti-terrorist legislation".

The man is 82 years old.

In case anyone missed it, the Iraqi police arrested two British soldiers. The soldiers were dressed as Arabs, heavily armed and reportedly had explosives and remote-control detonators in their car. They killed a policeman and shot at a crowd before being captured. The result was that the British Army used tanks to break these men out of prison.

The Iraqis have since issued an arrest warrant for the two soldiers.

The blatant whitewash in the British media has been amazing to watch.

Unfortunately, what we all have to accept is that if the conduct of Bush and Blair does not cause outrage, then perhaps there are those who do not care. If people are not against allowing American citizens to suffer and even die from negligence, or British soldiers acting as terrorists, then presumably they are for it.

How many people at the Labour Party conference tried to help the old man being attacked by heavies ? Go on, have a guess.

turns out there was one man - just one - who told the heavies to leave the old man alone.

the thugs threw him out as well.

why ?

1. French security authorities have said that a major Al-Queda recruiter worked directly for British MI5

2. American security personnel have said that the mastermind behind the London bombs worked directly for British MI6

and the future ?

Senior Indian politicians have said that the American government has informed them that America will be attacking Iran before the end of Bush's term

Britain attacks an 82 year-old man and America, instead of going after bin Laden, arrests Cindy Sheehan.
