I just discover this site, look great.
I'm an Aerospace Engineer, I live in a typical suburb north of Montréal, Québec.
I'm planning to retire in 5 or 6 years from now and I would like to do so in a "green house" from my own design (more on that later), so this project will not materialize, next week, but this length of time will allows me to get more knowledgeable into that field.
An old friend of mine is a well established Architect (25 years + experience, but mainly in commercial building), I saw him today, he agree to help me out. The deal is, I will do most of the job myself, eventually he will overlook my series of proposal & guide me.
My first questions to you:
I just saw the documentary " The End of Suburbia - Oil Depletion and the Collapse of The American Dream ", do you think that:
1- In a near future, because of the rising price of oil (energy as a whole), do you see the typical Suburb going out of fashion ?
2- With the Babyboomer bust ahead (most babyboomer retiring at the same time + liquidating their assets, causing devalue of stock) and the fact that there is less young people to buy whatever they will left behind, do you think that the "Monster House" phenomenon will also go out of fashion ? (anyway, I always found ridiculous the idea of a giant house in a twice as big land).
Basically, if I can afford it, I will like to spend to remaining portion of my life (probably 30 to 35 years) in a beautiful house for the sake of it, but also to make a statement (my Architect friend, also see it that way).
Thanks in advance. |
