Hey everyone! I am only a sophmore in highschool currently and I am starting to look at carrer options. Ever since I was in 2nd grade, I have been designing houses. Now, I know that being an architect is not just pumping out design after design...I am fully aware of all of the leg work that needs to be done. I have a few questions, so if you have any opinions or could provide me with any help, I would GREATLY appreciate it.
1) Are there different types of architectural degrees/divisions? Or is it all basically one position where you do all of the work? I want to mainly stick with residential properties.
2) What are some top colleges for architecture? I live in St. Louis and I have heard that Washington University and Kansas State have good programs. I would like to stay as close as possible to home.
3) How long of a program in college is it?
4) After college, where/who would I go and work for? Do I have to work as a type of assistant before I can take it all on?
5) Salary. Out of college, how much can I expect to be making?
6) Assuming that you have to work to gain certification, how hard is it to open uup your own firm or be a partner in one? What kind of pay would I expect then?
That is all that I can think of for right now. If you can give me any advice or any help at all, again, I would really, really appreciate it! Thanks!
