Hi,
I was born in Prague and there are a lot of interesting places to visit. Depends on what your interests are but some musts are the Prague Castle / the st. Vitus cathedral, Charles Bridge, The old town / astronomical clock. If you walk around these places you will find many interesting things. But you can find this in most tourist guides.

adolf loos's gem - the muller house. loos's climaxing assertion of his 'raumplan'.

only open for tours on tuesday, thursday, saturday though, and i guess only for large groups, though nobody official confirmed that for us when we were there on a monday...

if you take a city tour, signs directing you there are visible near the palace? i think. anyway it's up the hill from the old city, toward the palace/castle. i think the 22 car gets you near; check on that though. we found signs pointing toward it near the castle, and followed signs along street car tracks; 20 or so minute walk from initial sign at castle.

it's interesting to see how much of an influence that one building had on the surrounding neighborhood; deja still / modernist composition style housing in abundance surrounding the house, almost like a little modernist army with loos's muller house as its general. anyway, enjoy praha;

ned

oh yea and i found this pretty funny; there's an old city square courtyard near the cathedral with street vendors and whatnot, but there's a large kookoo? clock; and i found it to be very creepy; but everyone gathers around to watch. strange, but hilarious..

There's a pretty good pocket-sized guide to 20th c. stuff:

Ivan Margolius. Prague: A Guide to Twentieth Century Architecture (Konemann, 1997) - ISBN: 3895082821, on Amazon

Oh, and I particularly recommend Jose Plecnik's Church of the Sacred Heart at the Jirího z Podebrad metro stop in Vinohrady. The giant TV tower up the hill in Zizkov is also well worth a visit.

Plecnik's work can also be seen in the castle grounds.

I think Kafka lived in 5 or 6 places in Prague alone. Which one are you speaking of?

I've never been there, but I know that the museum/house is very small, with doors so small that you need to bend down in order to go through them. It is in narrow pedestrian street, somewhere close to downtown. Did this help? Smile

Its called rougly translated into english "the golden road" (Zlata ulicka). Its in Prahue castle and its a small road where all the houses are tiny and where all the alchemists used to live when they worked for Emperor Rudolf the second (1576 to 1611) who moved the capital of the austro-hungarian empire to Prague from Vienna. He was obsessed with crazy science so had all these teams of scientists and frauds working there.

I'd go to the modernist houseing estate BaBA. I took some lovely photos there last December, and all the scummy package tourists avoid it because there's nobody there selling cheap tat and rubbish to them.
