the reason is that many of the pro-Western Sunni-controlled states are not democracies.
this is largely the result of the British installing Sunni "Royals" in those countries.
incidentally, it was the Saudi Royals who proposed what is known as the Saudi Peace Plan for Israelis and the Palestinians. It included full diplomatic recognition and agreed borders for Israel with those borders guaranteed by all Arab nations. Why was it ignored by Israel and the US ?
however, if Bush attacks Iran, none of it will matter. _________________ Richard Haut has worked with the architectural profession for over 25 years and produces the weekly Richard Haut's Competitions, which has given architects details of many thousands of projects for which they can apply across Britain and Europe. |

well thats what i don't understand about the author insinuating that bush is now getting in bed with the shias....
i'm sure the independent also likes to write alot of stories about how bush is going to go after iran next...which doesn't seem like it would make alot of sense if he is supposedly now working with the shias...
obviously the sunnis would love to see iran go down...just the same way iran liked seeing saddam disappear |

the idea of going after Iran is deranged.
unfortunately Bush-Cheney-Rice seem to want to do it. (The British government seems to believe that Bush does intend to attack Iran).
ironic that the largest number of Iraqi exiles voting were in Iran. _________________ Richard Haut has worked with the architectural profession for over 25 years and produces the weekly Richard Haut's Competitions, which has given architects details of many thousands of projects for which they can apply across Britain and Europe. |

i think if the iraq elections play out as being successful then US policy might turn more towards just supporting iraq and afghanistan in hopes that will force a change in iran...
military action just seems too aggressive at this point since there is no 'safe' ground to attack from...in terms of ground forces, which aren't available at this time anyway...
either way i don't see iran happening anytime soon if it is going to happen they only have 2 battle groups in the region i think b/c the 3rd went to south east asia to help with tsunami stuff...
no heavy bombers or personel in the region either...although they could launch those from within the states if they chose.... |
