The ASLA conducted a security design symposium titled " Safe Spaces: Designing for Security and Civic Values." Recently, ASLA made the complete abstracts available for a free download through the ASLA's website, http://www.asla.org/abstracts/
The abstracts contain practical information and case studies demonstrating risk assessment, planning, construction methods and materials, and policy tools for determining appropriate design responses to identified threats.
Much of the Safe Spaces abstract is devoted to reinforcing security in public spaces, such as parks and federal security buildings. For instance, it includes an overview of FEMA's newly published risk management series, which provides building design guidance to help mitigate potential terrorist attacks.
I would highly recommend anyone who is interested learning more about risk assessment planning, design and construction methods for security take the time to download this lengthy document as a future reference guide at least. |
