Hi,
We are building a house and have a few dilemmas about the kitchen:
We chose a white, mat kitchen, the bottom of the kitchen is made of Aluminum.
The dilemma we have is regarding to the color of the countertop.
I have a fantasy about white countertop (even that the kitchen is white) but I also think about light gray.
What color do you think will match more?
How do you call the thing that prevents the water from dripping to the floor from the countertop?
I know that kitchens are more beautiful without it but I am seriously thinking about adding it because today we do have one and there are always water on the countertop.
Thank you for your answer!

Before a stranger can answer a question like that about color (even an expert stranger) they need to know what else is happening in the kitchen. What are the other finish materials and colors being used? What kind of flooring, what color and material are the cabinets, are the upper and lower cabinets the same? What type of wall treatment are you planning?

Color and material selection is a holistic process that requires considering all of the materials. I personally don't think a drip edge at the counter top will affect the "beauty" of the kitchen one way or the other.

You might consider visiting Susan Serra's Blog - The Kitchen Designer She is an excellent Kitchen Designer and I point many of my clients and all of my blog readers to her regularly. She has some excellent examples of kitchens that sound similar to what you are describing.

I think the word you are searching for is a dripless edge. The last time I saw a dripless edge was with laminate countertops. I think you may have a hard time finding that edge on any other surface (stone, solid surface, quartz, etc.).

Without knowing what else is going on in the space (flooring, paint colors, etc,) and just keeping in mind matte white and aluminum I think minimalist. Outside of crisp clean white, I think you should consider butcher block. There are so many wood species available - from natural maple to stunning (but expensive) wenge. Craft Art is a good place to check out.

Hope I helped!

Countertop color: If all other color matching, than a light gray will look great or white granite with gray, I think it is called Kashmir White Granite ..check that

About the counter top dripping. I don't think you need one. I believe the reason you previously had such a problem is because your counter was not leveled 100%. You have to make sure that the contractor who will install your countertop is a proffessional and with today's tools you could check the level yourself and don't pay unless it is done peoperly.

GOOD LUCK
