I beg to differ, the argument sounds a good one to me, when you consider that the living standards and expectations of populous countries like India and China are growing quickly, while the land area remains the same. Though in reality the greed and waste of the populations in the 'west' need to be managed far better, India is a frugal country in comparison!

I don't know whether you have seen it, but the Dutch Pavilion at the 2000 Hanover Expo was a commentary on population density and efficient land management, each level represented a different aspect of farming or natural resources.

THE PERFFECT CITY FOR THE THIRD WORLD ECCONOMY

PREAMBULE:

Self sufficient, self supporting “Modern Cities” of the third world can be designed and develop by using “footprint-fractal geometry” for building-parks, roads patterns, offering effective and flexible solutions for human residential development in hilly topographical sites where flat-buildable spaces are at a premium, and vertical modular buildings are the solution are the answer.

BUILDINGS:

Mix occupant-multiuse/multi-five story buildings for such as use as a), retail stores, b), schools, c). Clinics, d). recreation, e). sport facilities/parks, can be located at a walking distance from green areas and neighborhoods, creating real communal and socio-political

INDUSTRIAL WATER:

Industrial and warehouse service buildings will be develop to extract-recycle and purify water local waters, and will collect and storage for future use, in cisterns covered by water flora which eliminates evaporation producing beneficial bacteria which produces oxygen while absorbs carbon monoxide.

INDUSTRIAL AND DOMESTIC ELECTRICITRY

Nuclear, thermo-electric, gas, wind. tidal, geothermal electric generators and more likely ELECTRICITY ACCUMULATORS, will be used to provide all the electric power needed to processing and manufacturing the local farms and ranches raw products, using the manual labor native to this FRACTAL GEOMETRY CITY OF THE 22ND CENTURY.

RANCHING AND FARMING:

FRACTAL GEOMETRY CITY OF THE 22ND CENTURY

The farming and ranching will be done in reclaimed hillside land as it was done in the Greek and Roman Islands by using carbon print free gravity supported by naturally quarried rocks, sand an gravel and or by using fiberglass or segmental steel slanted retaining walls as proposed by Habitat Resources Inc,

IN THIS FRACTAL GEOMETRY CITY OF THE 22ND CENTURY. EVERYBODY WILL BE A FARMER, A RANCHER, AN INDUSTRIALIST, A BANKER A HAPPY FELLOW.
