I was curious to see how detailed everyone is getting on their plans. Is everyone showing sheetrock? Say if you have a 2x4 wall, the total thickness of the wall would be 4.5" using .5" thick sheetrock.
i'm thinking about leaning towards show the sheetrock while still shading walls in CAD. Kinda want to see hoe everyone else was doing it.

nominal vs actual it all depends but the contractors/trades would prefer you use actual
knowing is 1/2 the battle , consistent implementation is the other 1/2

Well, I'm doing everything actually. But I don't want my plans to look like they have a mistake on them. For example, when I go to dimension the outside of the structure, I'll have to come in off of the line representing my stud wall with sheathing/sheetrock.
Again, my wall in plan view will be 4.5 inches, but then the dimension string will go into the wall 1/2". This will set me up for mistakes because then I have to make sure I'm dimensioning the right line, and also it'll look like it isnt too the outside of a stud wall...because there will be sheathing.
These homes are also fairly large. They range from 8000 to 18000, so accuracy, and easy to read plans is a really big plus. |

The convention here is to not show drywall. I think going outside convention could be asking for problems.

Yeah... the main dimensions are for setting-out the basics first of all. Some guy (or gal) is going to come along with studs and have to locate them from your plans without having to shave half an inch off all the dims given.
The way we do things in the UK, for larger projects anyway, is issue different versions of the basic plan for different purposes. Absolutely every single bit (in theory, at any rate...) of information goes on the basic CAD model. Then various layout views are set up with only certain layers turned on. Of course, windows have to be drawn on a different layer to plasterboard (this is sheetrock, right?) on a different layer to brickwork etc.

Sweet thanks guys. I had a very good feeling that if you were to show sheetrock, it would just end up cause a lot of issues. Plasterboard, sheetrock, gyp board...its all the same stuff.
I wish I could share some stuff on here but everything I'm about to do is copywrited. Think i saw something about posting material like that is not allowed in the terms and conditions. |
