I'm a newbie to this forum with an important question regarding the safety of the elevators in our office building. The buiding is Chatham House and is located in Salcedo Village Makati City.
I'd like to know where I can file a complaint regarding the operation and maintennance of the elevators in the building as currently all three elevators (not including the service elevator) do not operate at their specified load and frequently drop one or two floors when at maximum weight. These elevators are certified by the City Engineer of Makati for 15 people but are currently set to carry only up to 12. When there are more than 12 people in the elevator the Overload warning appears in the elevator display. Once or twice a week the elevators in this building will drop a floor. Just as frequently an elevator gets stuck.
The certification of these elevators have elapsed - these were certified up to July of this year - it is now September. And once a week an elevator will be shut down for repairs causing very long lines that go all the way out of the lobby and into the street.
Who can I and the rest of the building occupants complain to as obviously the administration of this building does not want to spend the moeny to repair or certify these elevators properly? This is in the interest of the safety of everyone who uses the elevators. I can send a photo of the certification of the elevators to show that these are no longer valid.
Thank you to anyone who can help us in this matter. Maybe this can help raise awareness for many other buildings in our country that face similar problems. |

I guess I would try complaining to the group in charge of certifying the elevator or the city building department here in the US. If all of the tenants complained to the building owner it seems to like they would want to get it fixed. _________________ Chris Stewart

I don't know the laws of the Philippines, but typically, one would complain to the City "Manager" (Mayor, Chief Adminitstrator and/or staff) and on a civil level, can threaten the building owner with a lawsuit in a court of law. Otherwise, seek out local chapters for civil rights protection and if that doesn't work, whoever pays rent/buys has to be paying some company for that space...that company should be notified.
