I want to build an extended overhang off my garage roof. My question is if I tie 2x6's to the existing joists and how far can I cantilever the attached 2x6's to creat an extended overhang? I want to cantilever them as far as possible and maintain load integrity.

2ft-3-5/8in.

No just kidding Wink, it all depends on the material, dead load, live load and the method of attachment. We have no way of knowing, maybe you should hire an engineer.
