Hello DC,
I've used 3DS in the past at a very basic level for rendering up models which I would have prepared in CAD, but now for some reason whenever I import dwg. files from CAD into 3DSmax my gird disappears in max and I find it really difficult to prepare cameras, lights etc. anybody know how to prevent this from happening?
chanx,

It may be a case of new and old software. for example a drawing made in autocad 2006 would struggle to work in max 7 or earlier.
you could try saving the autocad file as something else such as .dxf or even .3ds |

hi,
you can save your cad files by:
file - save as - drawing.dwg; under the name, change the type of file into an older cad format.
example: if you use autocad 2006 and 3ds max5, then save your cad drawing into autocad 2000 format.
hth :)
sincerely yours,
