hi ,
i m doing this research on shading devices, and want to prove that they tend to reflect the regionalism in architecture .. in the present times shading devices are percieved as unwanted projections , there were a few like lecorb. , who had tried to incorporate sun shading in their design .. i want some more examples ,where i could clearly find the climatic factors of the region clearly taken into consideration .
any ideas guys?

Although at first glance the thesis seems to have great merit, I am bothered by one thing: I'm not convinced that sun shades are a "regional" matter since (most) everywhere on earth people have dealt with the sun, especially in the built environment.

What is it again that you are trying to "prove"? It's an interesting subject but want to clarify some issues first...

i agree with mx2 in that the sun or lack thereof has been dealt with by all people's around the world...

so maybe the interesting thing to explore would be to investigate how different cultures, regions, etc etc have shaded [warm climates] or welcomed [cool climate] the sun with their designs...

I kind of find it amusing that people feel they can criticize someones thesis based off a single paragraph.

Sujaya,
I'm not sure if you're interested in new construction but
one to check out may be found at
www.commonfire.org

the building is oriented and has 4 foot soffit overhangs to maximize solar gain in the winter and reduce it in the summer.

If you have more questions just ask me or contact the owners through the website. I'm sure they will be happy to provide more information if you are interested.
